Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend

The Guild Wars 2 Beta weekend is finally here. Will it be the saviour of the genre? just another WoW clone? Crash to desktop before I can log in?

We're about to find out.

While I've spent a fair amount of time reading about Guild Wars 2 I haven't spent any time at all reading about the lore or the land, so if nothing else it should be fun to spend some time exploring.

There's no NDR anymore, so I'll post some screenshots and general impressions later in the weekend.

For anyone else that's in the Beta, I'm staring off on the Eternal Grove server. I would imagine you can guess my character's name.

See you there!

Were you able to give TERA a shot? Really enjoying it and it seems to be getting people to cancel GW2 preorders because of the different styles of combat among other things.

I've heard good things about the TERA combat, but it's hard to justify paying $15/mo when GW2 won't have a monthly fee. If I've done the math correctly then that's 3x $5 footlongs from subway.

I also get the impression that it's more of a time commitment per productive play session than GW2 but perhaps that's false (and a bit of a subjective measurement).

I'm up to level 30, I've only played a couple sessions of more than an hour or two. Being a Korean game that's been adapted for the US by decreasing the grind among a bunch of other things I'm not sure I understand the time commitment thing.

Interested in GW2, probably wouldn't touch it if it had a monthly fee. Will almost certainly grab it on sale at some point.
